Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany

Marine Corps Albany PartnerHealth Promotion staff at Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB) Albany have been long-term supporters of the Quit Tobacco – Make Everyone Proud campaign, and they use a variety of creative ways to market tobacco cessation on base. The ucanquit2.org website and our 24/7/365 Live Chat service is promoted regularly at installation events and in tobacco cessation counseling sessions and classes.

To more effectively reach Marines with cessation messages, our campaign posters are displayed in high traffic areas of the clinic and our easy-to-use table tents await guests at each of the patient check-in areas. Contact information for local MCLB Albany cessation services is also added to each so that Marines have a local resource for help in addition to the tools they can find on our campaign website. Each visitor that comes to the wellness clinic for tobacco cessation receives a ucanquit2.org campaign bag filled with our campaign-branded stress ball, notepad and pen as reminders to visit our website for support. These materials are also available for those who are helping or encouraging others to quit, as they are important allies in the fight against tobacco use.

For the 2010 Great American Smokeout (GASO), the MCLB team hosted a table at the Marine Corps Exchange where they displayed visual aids explaining the health effects of tobacco, a GASO banner, and a variety of our campaign materials, which were a success with visitors. Over 150 people stopped at the table to get information on tobacco and to pick up campaign promotional items like the stress balls, scratch and sniff cards, notepads, post-it notes, and pens. The Health Promotion team also partnered with the exchange on base to offer coupons and discounts for those who pledged to participate and be smoke free for the day.

According to MCLB Albany Health Promotions staff, “Your campaign materials have really been helpful in getting the word out about quitting.” We encourage everyone promoting tobacco cessation in the Military to use Department of Defense/TRICARE® tobacco cessation campaign’s free tools and online support to complement local efforts.

If you are already promoting Quit Tobacco – Make Everyone Proud on your installation and would like to share your story for our Partner Spotlight, or if you want to learn more about how to use the campaign, please email us at info@ucanquit2.org.
